Register a birth, death or marriage
Whether you’re planning your marriage or civil partnership, having a baby or experiencing a bereavement, Nottinghamshire County Council will be able to help you.
Registering a birth
You are legally required to register the birth of a new-born. To do this, you will need to make an appointment at your nearest register office.
More information about registering a birth can be found on the County Council website.
Registering a death
You can register a death online on the government website, alternatively you can book an appointment with your nearest register office on the County Council’s website.
Tell Us Once
Tell Us Once is a government service that lets you report a death to most government organisations in one go.
Once you have registered the death a registrar will explain the Tell Us Once service to you and will either:
- complete the service with you
- or give you a unique reference number so you can use the service yourself online or by phone
More information about the Tell Us Once service can be found on the government’s website.
You can also find information about cemeteries, crematoria and churchyards in the Newark and Sherwood area on our website.
Registering a marriage or civil partnership
If you are arranging a marriage or civil partnership you will need to give notice of intention to marry/form a civil partnership. If you are a resident of Nottinghamshire, to do this you’ll need to make an appointment at a Nottinghamshire registration office.
More information about registering a marriage or civil partnership can be found on the Nottinghamshire County Council’s website.
