A brand new development that provides older people with additional care support had its official opening ceremony on Friday 5 November in Boughton, Nottinghamshire.

Broadleaves is the fourth ‘housing with care’ scheme to be opened by Newark and Sherwood District Council. The state-of-the-art scheme has been designed for people aged over 60.

An official opening, led by Councillor Tim Wendels, Chairman of Newark and Sherwood District Council’s Homes and Communities Committee, took part on the site with partners and residents.

There are 30 spacious and accessible apartments designed to meet possible future needs, with features including a wet room and wider doorways. 20 of the apartments have been designated for people with daily care needs. An on-site care team provides support to these residents and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Each apartment has an under floor heating system, modern kitchen with fitted cooker and is linked to the care line system, reassuring residents that they will be able to easily seek emergency assistance at any time of the day or night. There are also 10 two-bedroom bungalows, all with the same features.

All residents will have access to communal facilities such as a communal lounge, laundry room, guest room and even a TV lounge and hairdressing salon. There is also a commercial kitchen with cooks employed to offer home cooked and tasty lunches.

Councillor Tim Wendels, Chairman of Newark and Sherwood District Council’s Homes and Communities Committee, said: “We’re excited to see this outstanding housing complex is now open. The district has an ageing population evidenced through our housing register which is a key influence in terms of the housing that we are providing.

“Each apartment provides residents with a wide range of facilities and amenities that will allow them to live safely and comfortably along with 24 hour support should they need it.”

Nottinghamshire County Council helped in for identifying and assessing applicants with care needs for the site while Fosse Health Care were commissioned as the developments care provider.

Councillor Boyd Elliott, Chair of the County Council’s Adult Social Care and Public Health Committee, said: “Broadleaves brings independent living to the heart of Boughton, offering people their own apartment and their own front door in a modern building which is designed to meet their future needs. People who are assessed as needing social care support can benefit from one of our extra care apartments, with a care team on site to help them 24/7.”
