Wind Energy SPD
The Wind Energy Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) (PDF File, 428kb) describes our approach to wind energy development in Newark and Sherwood.
It was adopted on 26 March 2014 and now forms part of the planning application process in our District.
The SPD provides detailed guidance on how we’ll consider planning applications for wind energy schemes, including:
- pre and post application stages
- how proposals to develop schemes will be assessed
- relevant policies within the District Council’s Amended Core Strategy DPD (March 2019) (PDF File, 15,555kb) and Allocations and Development Management Development Plan Document (PDF File, 10,347kb)
Supporting Documents
The following documents support the Wind Energy SPD.
Landscape Sensitivity Assessment
The Landscape Sensitivity Assessment (LSA) for wind and solar energy schemes provides judgements on the landscape sensitivity of different parts of Newark and Sherwood District to these forms of development. The findings of this study will underpin the Local Plan and will be used to guide the determination of planning applications.
The LSA comprises a criteria-based assessment, in line with the Natural England guidance on Landscape Sensitivity Assessment. The study is based on the description and classification of the landscape presented in the 2013 Newark and Sherwood Landscape Character Assessment Supplementary Planning Document.
This assessment forms an update to the Newark and Sherwood Council’s 2014 Landscape Capacity Study for Wind Energy Development, to reflect changes in policy and technology, and with the additional consideration of solar energy schemes.
