Deadline for Palace’s Future Talent Fund Draws Near

Posted on: Thursday, April 21, 2022

Local young people wishing to pursue a career in the arts have just a short time left to apply for the Palace Theatre’s new legacy fund. Launched as a thank you to the community and in celebration of the Theatre’s 2020 centenary, the Our Past, Your Future fund closes for applications on Saturday 30th April.

Anyone who is aged 16 to 25 and living within Newark and Sherwood is welcome to apply for financial help with course or accommodation costs in their pursuit of a future in the arts, whether performing, writing, directing or technical.

Theatre sponsors Tallents Solicitors have been an instrumental partner in the project and said: “Tallents Solicitors is very proud to have been a Principal Sponsor of the Palace Theatre Newark for many years, and to be their Centenary Sponsor as they continue to bring entertainment to our community. With our continuing support, we are delighted to be able to help the Palace Theatre Newark now reach out to the local community and encourage applications from anyone in need of a grant to enable them to become involved in the wonderful world of the arts”.

When applications close, the fund’s panel will assess all entrants, inviting a selection to interview so they can hear more about how they would benefit from the £1500 grant. In order to give back to the town even more, successful applicants must be able and willing to offer something to other young people in Newark after the completion of their course.

Palace Theatre Manager Carys Coulton-Jones said: “I really want to encourage the local young people of Newark to take up this opportunity and apply to the fund. I strongly believe in our local talent, evidenced by the brilliant dance schools who perform at our Theatre every year as well as our fantastic Newark Amateur Operatic Society and even stars who have taken to the national stage like Nathan Foad with his recent Newark, Newark show. I think Newark has many more stories to tell and I’m delighted that with this fund we will be able to help them to be heard”.
