Information for New Residents

If you are either new to Newark or Sherwood, or moving home within the district, this handy guide will provide you with some information that you might need to know!

Firstly, we hope you enjoy your new home, settle in quickly and enjoy all the wonderful things available in our district!

Secondly, we have two customer service centres, one in Newark and one in Ollerton.  We offer a range of services, some of which are listed below.  In Newark, we also share our offices with several different partners that you may also need to access including DWP and Citizen’s Advice.

Our Moving Home Checklist

Here are a few things that you may need to change immediately:

  • Council Tax (that’s us!)
  • Housing benefit (that’s us too!)
  • Register your new address to vote (that’s also us!)
  • DWP for any benefits
  • Bank account providers
  • Your employer
  • Your children’s schools
  • Gas and electricity provider
  • Water company
  • TV licensing
  • Inform HMRC about your change of address
  • Arrange post redirection with the Royal Mail (if applicable)
  • Register at local GP, optician, and dentist (if applicable)
  • Contact the DVLA to change your address on your driving licence
  • Car insurance change of address
  • If you have moved into a new build home, order your household waste and recycling bins
  • Internet provider
  • Pet owners: update microchip details and register at vets
  • Home and contents insurance
  • Life insurance

You can register on our website for MyNS which is a tailored portal containing information relevant to you. You will be able to keep track of any questions you ask us, your bin collection dates, who your local ward councillor is and more. 

5 – Getting out and about
