Oxton Parish Council has an exciting opportunity for a member of the community to serve as a Parish Councillor.

  • Are you interested in local current affairs?
  • Do you wish to serve and contribute to your community?
  • Could you provide a voice for local residents?

If you feel like you would like to get involved in making decisions about your local community and make a significant contribution to the area in which you live, then this is the position for you!

There are ten parish council meetings per year plus some ad-hoc meetings which you will be required to attend. The term of office will be until the next elections in May 2023 when all Councillors must be re-elected.

You will receive full support from the Council, and training, where needed, will be provided. A can-do attitude, positive outlook and being a team player are important attributes as is being able to communicate electronically.

A parish council is the first tier of local government and closest to the community it serves. There are seven councillor posts on Oxton Parish Council, all of whom have voting rights. The Council employ a parish clerk to administer the parish council’s affairs. The clerk is also the responsible financial officer.

Like district and county councillors, parish councillors are elected once every four years. Vacancies occurring between elections are filled either by election or co-option.
