Following the announcement by the UK Government to provide funding for households affected by Storm Babet, residents across Newark and Sherwood affected by flooding can claim a £500 Community Recovery Grant.

Newark and Sherwood District Council has created an online form to apply for the grant which can be accessed through its website.

Residents who have been adversely affected by Storm Babet can complete the form online, or if needed, they can call the District Council on 01636 650 000 Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and its customer services advisors can offer support.

The £500 grant is available for any household in which their main home has been flooded or the home has been left uninhabitable, for example where utilities have been cut off for more than 48 hours. Applicants will be asked to provide proof of flooding and where possible Council Officers will visit the household to verify the claim if they haven’t already been to the property.

In addition, households may be eligible for the Council Tax Discount scheme. Under this scheme, affected eligible households will be given a 100% discount on their Council Tax for at least 3 months. Applications should be made using the same form as the Community Recovery Grant.

“It is incredibly important that help is offered by the UK Government and that it will soon be with our residents. These floods have been devastating for many of our residents, so this money will be very welcome,” states Councillor Paul Peacock, Leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council, “I am proud of how our communities, residents and District Council colleagues have worked together during these past few weeks. Hopefully we can continue to help each other to get back normality soon.”
