Training and job fairs

We want to support our local businesses to find the right employees, and help our residents to develop the skills they need to secure employment. Our pre-employment training programme and regular jobs fairs help link the right candidates with the right employers.

Our dedicated employment and skills group brings together delivery partners to:

  • help people who are out of work to secure sustainable employment
  • support employers with their recruitment and skills needs
  • link education with business to help mould our future workforce.

If you have any employment and skills-related queries, email us at economic.growth@newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk

Free pre-employment training programme for employers

We provide a free pre-employment training programme to employers with job vacancies. We work with employers to create a bespoke training programme based on their skills requirements. The programme helps give candidates an awareness of a given sector and work areas.

As part of this process all candidates will be pre-screened on behalf of the employer. The only thing an employer has to offer in return is guaranteed interviews.

As well as the pre-employment training programme, we host regular jobs fairs to enable employers to promote their vacancies free of charge.

Job fairs

We hold a series of job fair and recruitment events throughout the year. The fairs promote apprenticeships, direct recruitment, training, volunteering and careers support.

If you’re looking for work, they’re a great place to get help and advice as well as to find jobs that might be a match for you.

To get the latest news on job fairs in the area follow and like our social media.

Ollerton Outreach Service

In January 2014 we helped launch the Ollerton Outreach Service which seeks to support residents within the district to gain the support and information they require in order to access services and gain employment.

The service is run in partnership with the Department for Work & Pensions (DWP), Sutton Academy Transformation Trust, Ollerton & Boughton Town Council (OBTC), Inspire and Achieve Foundation and Newark and Sherwood District Council.

The partner organisations offer the following services:

  • learning (skills and knowledge)
  • communication (CV writing)
  • confidence building (interview skills)
  • accessing work opportunities from both small local employers and larger employers across the district
  • ICT training courses to help young people not in employment, education or training (NEET) overcome barriers, find their motivation and progress into employment or education

The Ollerton Outreach Service runs every Wednesday and Thursday between 9.30am and 3pm from Ollerton and Boughton Town Hall (NG22 9PP).
