Medical waste collections
We provide a medical waste collection service and collect both infectious health care waste and sharps boxes.
To request a medical waste collection, the patient or their representative should contact our customer services team who will take the necessary details. e.g. name and address of patient and the contact details of their GP or district nurse.
A form will be sent to the patient's medical professional via Nottinghamshire County Council. If the medical professional assesses the waste to be infectious we will supply bags and stickers and advise on the date of the collection. Health care waste which is not infectious should now be wrapped in a plastic bag and placed in the green refuse bin.
If you have a problem storing this additional waste or wish to arrange a collection, please contact our customer services team.
Weekly collections take place on Tuesdays and Wednesday and are ongoing until you notify us.
Occasional collections will mostly be for sharps boxes. Once you have been set up for collections (as per above) you can request collections using our online form.
COVID-19:Recycling and garden waste collections
It is with deep regret that, with effect from Monday 30 March, collections of recycling (silver bin) and garden waste (brown bin) will temporarily cease across Newark and Sherwood. This is to ensure that collections of the critical waste (green/black bin) and medical waste can be prioritised at this challenging time.
Temporarily, people should place their recycling waste in with their critical waste (green/black bin). Any residents who have subscribed to the garden waste collection service by 1st April 2020, will receive a reduced rate if they choose to continue with this service in 2021-22.
Residents should continue to put their critical waste (green/black bin) out for collection on their normal days by 6.00am.
We apologise sincerely for the inconvenience this will inevitably cause.
