Join one of our teams
Apprentices working for the council are fully-fledged members of their teams, carrying out a wide variety of jobs in the busy world of local government.
Apprenticeship opportunities with us provide you with an excellent opportunity to learn work-based skills and gain a recognised qualification.
Business units where we have previously had apprenticeship opportunities include:
- Corporate Administration
- Human Resources
- Parks and Amenities
- Planning Policy
- Revenues and Benefits
- Waste Management
- Economic Development
Apprenticeship placements usually last for a temporary period of 12 to 15 months during which time you will benefit from training in your job role and develop a greater understanding of the council and the services we offer.
Unfortunately we are unable to guarantee a permanent role at the end of the 12 months, but apprentices are encouraged to apply for any suitable vacancies that do arise during their time with us. Of the 16 new apprentices recruited in the last two years, 5 have either secured permanent roles or moved on to an advanced apprenticeship and 8 are still completing their first qualification. In addition to this, 4 people who started out as apprentices moved on to higher level apprenticeships whilst undertaking permanent roles.
How to apply
Vacancies for apprenticeship opportunities with us can come up at any time throughout the year. All of our apprenticeship vacancies are advertised on the Jobs Go Public website and on GOV.UK's find an apprenticeship service. They are also advertised on the Council's social media.
To apply, visit the JobsGoPublic website where you can complete an online application form or, alternatively, contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01636 655242 to request an application pack.
Whether it’s dealing with customers at our offices at Castle House or maintaining the variety of species of trees in our country parks our apprentices get the opportunity to learn about the diverse world of local government first hand.
