Choose a wedding venue with a difference

COVID-19 Update

At present, weddings are unable to take place in the Undercroft or bandstand at Newark Castle.  Registry office weddings will still be taking place whilst adhearing to all governement guidance.  For up to date information please contact Lucy Jones, wedding coordinator at Newark Castle.

Newark Castle is a 12th century monument in beautiful surroundings. The castle walls stand tall and proud with the River Trent flowing beside it. The beautifully maintained gardens provide a stark contrast of colour with the ancient walls. You will make your vows standing beneath the bandstand framed by the walls of the castle. Or, if you want something a little different, hold your ceremony in the atmospheric undercroft surrounded by stone arches, for a more intimate wedding.

Please note, you will need to book the registrar yourself:

Information on registering to marry can be found on the Nottinghamshire County Council website.

The Bandstand

‌Get married under the bandstand in the centre of Newark Castle. Your guests will be able to admire the historic walls and beautifully kept gardens while they await the bride's arrival. The bandstand is the perfect location for a summer wedding and provides the perfect setting for that memorable wedding photo.

The undercroft

‌‌This former storage area for the castle provides an atmospheric enclosed space within the castle.

For a wedding with a difference choose the castle's undercroft. Up to 50 guests can be catered for in this intimate setting. You can decorate the room how you like to create the perfect atmosphere for your special day.

History of Newark Castle

We have licensed Newark Castle (the 12th century, scheduled ancient monument) for weddings in order to help create an income that can be reinvested in the preservation of the listed building.

The Castle Gardens, which are Grade II listed by English Heritage, were designed by an eminent Victorian landscape architect, H.E. Milner, and were officially opened on 24th May 1889, the day of Queen Victoria’s 70th birthday.

Couples can say their vows in the undercroft or under the bandstand. The wider castle grounds can also be utilised with marquees.

Please contact Lucy on the details below for a quote for your special day.

  • The undercroft is accessed via the castle's waterway by the River Trent
  • We are unable to close the gardens whilst the ceremony is taking place
  • You will need to pay a 10% deposit at the time of booking
  • You will need to book the registrar yourself as this is not included in the price
  • All dates are subject to availability
