Making payments to the Council

We want to make payment for the goods or services we provide as easy and flexible as possible, as well as helping to reduce the cost to you.

We're switching our payment provider from 16 July 2024

We are changing our payment provider from 16 July 2024, and you may see some differences when you come to make a payment to us.

Our new payment service provider is Pay 360. This will mean that the online payment pages you see will be a little different to what you are used to. If you have bookmarked any payment pages that you use regularly, you will need to update these with the new page details after 16 July 2024.

We will also be changing the current 0300 payment line. So, if you have this saved on your phone, please update it with the number 01636 650 000.

Our new payment provider also now offers a transfer to Bank payment option.

What services can I pay for online?

Our online payments service is provided by Pay 360, on behalf of the council.

To use the service you will need a debit or credit card. We accept Visa and Mastercard cards only. We do not accept American Express.

Paying by telephone

You can pay for the following by telephone:

  • council tax
  • business rates
  • housing rent
  • benefit overpayments
  • invoice payments (includes Careline payments, parking permits, trade waste)

You can pay over the phone using a debit or credit card. Call 01636 650 000 and select the correct option. You will need to enter your billing/reference number. 

Please make sure that you have ready:

  • your debit or credit card 
  • your account reference number
  • the amount you wish to pay
  • a pen to record the transaction number

Trade waste payments

You can pay your trade waste invoice online, by Direct Debit, over the phone using a card payment or at a post office, Paypoint or Payzone outlet.

Pay for parking

PayByPhone cashless parking lets you pay for parking using your mobile phone.

Pay a parking fine

Parking fines/Fixed Penalty Notices can be paid online via the Nottinghamshire County Council website

Paying council invoices

The sundry income section is responsible for collecting a wide range of income on behalf of the council, including charges for:

  • building control fees
  • commercial waste
  • Careline payments
  • rents
  • car parking permits
  • radio link (shop watch alarm system)

The standard payment terms, for all Newark and Sherwood District Council invoices, is payment within 14 days of the date of the invoice.

You can pay your invoice online or via telephone by calling 01636 650 000.

What to do if you’re having difficulty paying

If you’re having difficulty paying your invoice or account by the due date, please contact us by calling us on 01636 655 353. We will discuss your situation and, if needed, refer you to local and national advice services to help with financial issues.

Disputed invoices

If you disagree with the invoice/account or it is unclear why it has been sent to you, please contact us immediately either by telephone or in writing.

It’s important that you get in touch straight away if you have a query on the invoice/account or dispute it in any way. If you don’t tell us that there is a problem, recovery action will continue which may result in County Court action.

If your query is about the service provided by the council, please also contact the department that issued the invoice. The contact name and telephone number are shown on the invoice.

How to go paperless

You can sign up for paperless billing for things like your Council Tax. Register with our online open portal
