Important information about Council Tax email
Posted on: Thursday, April 3, 2025This week our Council Tax team sent emails to some residents. These emails were sent on Monday 31 March, between 11.39am and 11.50am.
These emails were issued as part of our process to gently remind some individuals that there appears to have been a delay in paying some or part of their 2024 / 2025 Council Tax and, as we have come to the end of this Council Tax year period, advising that accounts would need bringing up to date and settling. This email was genuine despite some misinformation we have seen circulating on social media. We have seen a social media post, with multiple comments, which has shown a version of the email relating to last year’s Council Tax bill for 2024 / 2025, alongside a new bill for 2025 / 2026. These bills were sent out by us separately, last year and this year, and have been shown side by side in the social media post. This has led, understandably, to people being worried that our email was fake or a scam. We have checked and we can reassure you that it is not fake or a scam.
It is good that residents are remaining extra vigilant and have queried the validity of this email. We would always encourage everyone to always be vigilant and if you are unsure then do not click on any links in any emails you receive. If you receive an email that appears to come from us, or in fact any business or organisation, we will always encourage anyone to validate the links before clicking. In terms of when that information comes from us and is in relation to Council Tax, you can always validate links by going to our website (which we would encourage you to find via a Google web search as opposed to clicking on a link on the email) and log into your Council Tax portal that way. To log into the Council Tax portal, go to the homepage of our website, click the ‘Council Tax’ link found beneath the icon buttons, select the ‘View your Council Tax information and register for paperless billing’ button and register or log in.
You can then check your balance on your Council Tax account and find out whether there are any outstanding issues with your account. Alternatively, our Customer Services team are on standby to help answer any questions. Again, you can always use a Google web search to find our telephone number rather than using anything that has been provided to you in an email. Our Customer Service team is available 9am until 5pm, Monday to Friday.
We have sent an email to all those customers affected but are placing this on our website to offer a further level of reassurance that our contact has been genuine.
We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. I trust this helps explain what you may have seen on social media, but if you require any further information, then please do not hesitate to contact us.
