Food and Drink Festival Brings Flavour to Newark
Posted on: Wednesday, May 10, 2023An exciting two-day Food and Drink Festival is on its way to Newark’s Town Centre at the end of May.
Visitors can attend for free with a host of independent food, drinks, and confectionary stalls set to fill the heart of Newark Town Centre on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 May 2023.
Local food and beverage consultant Leisa Pickles from Find Me The Leads and market service company Market Place (Europe) have worked alongside Newark Town Council and Newark and Sherwood District Council to bring the festival to life.
Alongside the general Saturday market, Stodman Street will be brimming with almost twenty street food traders introducing Newark to a feast of new flavours including gourmet pizzas, craft gins and the renowned team at Bedford Coffee.
Newark has not held a dedicated Food and Drink Market for several years and Market Place (Europe) is delighted to bring a host of international fare to the town once more.
Andy Pidgen, Operations Manager at Market Place (Europe), said: “Working alongside the existing traders in Newark Royal Market, the Food and Drink Festival will bring an opportunity for locals to be introduced to something a little bit different right here in the heart of Newark.”
Bringing a taste of Newark to the event, there will also be a showcase of independent hospitality venues and foodie businesses in and around the town centre. Headed up by Leisa Pickles of Find Me the Leads, visitors will be invited to sample food and drink from the best local suppliers whilst taking advantage of unique ‘on the day’ event offers from local businesses.
Leisa Pickles, local Food and Drink Consultant at Find Me the Leads, said: “Find me the Leads® will be hosting a Food and Drink Discovery event to showcase independent food and drink businesses that operate in and around the town centre.
“Each business will have a dedicated display space to showcase who they are, what they do and how to find them. The team from Find me the Leads® will be on hand to share information about independent food and drink businesses including which ones are dog friendly, which ones are open on Sundays and which ones are the most child friendly.
“On the day, the first 100 visitors to the Find me the Leads® stand will receive a goody bag including a sweet treat provided by Davison's Bakery and a copy of the Newark Foodie Map.”
A great variety of drinks, street food and fresh food will be available to taste and takeaway.
Matthew Gleadell, Clerk of Newark Town Council, said: “Live music, street performers and a Steampunk Market will also feature alongside the Food and Drink Festival - plus with the Newark Beer and Cider Festival in the Castle Grounds it makes perfect sense to bring people together across this exciting weekend of activity!”
The Food and Drink Festival takes place in the marketplace from 10am until 4pm on each of the two days.
The festival and other events planned for Newark Market is being delivered by Newark Town Council and Newark and Sherwood District Council as part of the Cultural Heart of Newark project, which is aimed at increasing footfall, dwell time and retail spend in the town centre. This is one of nine projects outlined in Newark Town Funds Board’s successful £25 million bid to central Government under their Towns Fund initiative.
Tom Cartledge, Co-Chair of the Newark Town Board, said: “Foods, drinks and confectionary local to Newark and from across the globe will be on show creating a busy and bustling town centre, with lots for visitors to taste and experience.
“The Food and Drink Festival is the perfect start to kick off the exciting summer of events that are planned to take place in the centre of Newark. It’s a great event that will not only attract residents in Newark but will also encourage those living in neighbouring towns and cities to spend a day in the town while also visiting our local independent shops.”
