No Mow May
We are once again joining the No Mow May initiative and letting the grass grow!
During the month of May our Street Scene Team will be cutting back on the mowing of certain areas of various Council-owned green spaces and country parks. In doing so the grass is left to grow and wild flowers bloom, resulting in a ‘nectar feast’ for pollinators such as honeybees, bumblebees, butterflies and moths, and beetles.
Selected sections of grass will be left to grow in the following areas,
- Boughton Field, Boughton
- Bishops Drive Cemetery, Southwell
- Clay Lane, Newark
- Cleveland Square, Newark
- Collis Close, Newark
- Edgehill Drive, Newark
- Holy Rood Church Cemetery, Ossington
- Howes Court, Newark
- Marston Moor Road, Newark
- Queen Elizabeth Memorial Garden, Newark
- Newbury Road, Newark
- Orchard Close, Bleasby
- Parfitt Drive, Farnsfield
- Rainworth Open Water, Rainworth
- Sconce and Devon Park, Newark
- Stanley Terrace Railway Walk, Newark
- St Marys Church Cemetery, Blidworth
- Thorpe Close, Coddington
- Thorpe Oaks, Coddington
- Vicar Water, Clipstone
- Winstanley Drive, Newark
The District Council is also working with partners to leave even more areas of the district to grow. In partnership with Newark Town Council the following areas will be left:
- Barnby Road Play Area
- Friary Gardens
- John Pope Way
- Riverside Park
Areas such as road verges are the responsibility of Nottinghamshire County Council and have not previously been included in the District Council’s plans for No Mow May, however this year both councils have partnered up to leave the verges along Beacon Hill Road and areas of London Road, Balderton to bloom and grow!
These specific areas have been chosen in order to ensure there are still areas being mown which will still allow residents to continue activities such as dog walking, and allow children to play in more maintained green spaces.
