Green bin for general waste

Your green wheeled bin is for non-recyclable domestic waste which cannot be placed in your silver recycling bin.

Green bin collections

Bins should be put out for collection no sooner than the night before your allocated collection day and you should bring your bin back within the boundary of your property no later than 24 hours after emptying.

We will not collect any side waste and the lid on the bin must be closed. We provide a separate excess waste collection service for items which will not fit into the green bin.

Once emptied, you should take your bin back in promptly as leaving it out can block pavements and make it difficult for wheelchair and pushchair users to use the pavement.

The following items cannot be placed in your green bin:

  • soil, bricks and concrete
  • tyres or car parts
  • building rubble and stones
  • paints, oils or solvents
  • fixtures and fittings (bathroom fittings and kitchen units)

Please take these items to your local recycling centre.

You can check your bin collection day by using our online bin collection day calendar.

Missed, lost and damaged bins

If your bin has been missed please complete our missed household bin online form as soon as possible. Please note that missed bins cannot be reported before 3pm on the day of emptying.

If you need a replacement bin please complete our missing or lost bin online form.

If your bin is damaged, you can report this using our damaged resident bin online form so we can arrange a replacement.

Alternatively, you can complete all of the above on our resident portal 'MyNS' which will also let you track the status of the request or report.

We may make a discretionary charge for missing or damaged bins.

Request a different sized bin

You can request a smaller or larger bin by completing our bin exchange online form or using our resident portal 'MyNS' which will also allow you to track the status of the request. If you live in a household of six or more you may be entitled to a larger bin, however this is dependent upon you demonstrating willingness to minimise your family waste and participate in our recycling schemes.

Bins for new properties

If you have recently moved into a new property and require a bin please complete our new property bin request online form. There is a £36 charge per new bin, which covers the purchase and delivery costs associated with establishing the collection.

If you’re a property developer and require a new bin for a property, you’ll need to contact us.
