Simpler Recycling is here!
Posted on: Wednesday, April 1, 2026Simpler Recycling has now launched in Newark and Sherwood, bringing improvements to the silver bin service to make recycling clearer and more consistent for residents.
Households can start adding several new items to the silver recycling including:
- Aluminium foil such as clean kitchen foil and foil trays
- Cartons for milk, juice, soup and plant‑based drinks
- Plastic pots, tubs and trays including punnets and food trays
- Plastic tubes such as toothpaste and cosmetic tubes
- Aluminium bottles such as shampoo or soap bottles
- Aluminium tubes including tomato purée tubes
- Metal jar and bottle lids
Nothing is changing about what residents can already recycle. All existing items will continue to be collected as normal. The service is simply being expanded so households can recycle even more from home.
Recycling should be empty, clean, dry and placed loose in the silver bin.

Councillor Simon Forde, Portfolio Holder for Climate and the Environment, said: “We’re pleased that Simpler Recycling has now launched across the district and that residents can recycle even more from home. These additions mean more everyday items can go straight into the silver bin rather than being thrown away.
“We know recycling can sometimes feel complicated, but these improvements make it easier for everyone to recycle with clarity. This is a positive step for Newark and Sherwood, and we are looking forward to seeing the benefits for both residents and the environment.”
This positive change supports the Government’s Simpler Recycling policy, which aims to make recycling collections more consistent across England so everyone can recycle the same core materials. It will help reduce confusion and improve recycling rates.
Residents living in flats can also take part using their communal recycling bins.
