Residents invited to renew or join Garden Recycling Service for 2026/27

Posted on: Tuesday, February 10, 2026

Residents are being encouraged to recycle their garden waste responsibly by signing up to the District Council’s garden recycling service, which is now open for registrations for the 2026/27 year.

You can now sign up to the 2026/27 service and join over 19,671 residents who are already signed up! For an annual cost of £40, residents receive a brown bin and benefit from a year‑round collection service. Collections take place every two weeks between March and November and monthly from December through to February. Additional brown bins can also be ordered at a cost of £40 per bin.

Your brown bin can be used to dispose of:

  • Grass cuttings
  • Hedge trimmings
  • Leaves
  • Small branches and twigs (up to 10cm in diameter)
  • Plants and weeds
  • Cut flowers
  • Chopped up Christmas trees in January

Existing customers will shortly receive renewal letters and emails inviting them to continue with the service. Once payment has been received, residents will be issued with a new bin sticker after 10 March. Only brown bins displaying a valid sticker will be collected.

The service runs from 1 April through to 31 March each year. Residents are advised to sign up as early as possible, as no refunds or concessions are offered for joining part‑way through the year.

Garden waste collected through the scheme is processed in an environmentally responsible way, helping to cut the amount of waste sent to landfill and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This supports the District Council’s wider commitment to protecting the environment and tackling climate change.

You can sign up for the 2026/27 service on the District Council website: https://www.newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk/gardenrecycling/

Councillor Simon Forde, Portfolio Holder for Climate Change and the Environment at Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “Our garden recycling service is a simple and effective way for us all to make a real difference to the environment. By recycling garden waste properly, we reduce the amount sent to landfill and ensure it is treated in a much more sustainable way. It’s great to see such a huge number of households already taking part, and we’d love even more residents to sign up for 2026/27.

“The service is excellent value for money, with regular collections throughout the year and a dead simple sign‑up process. I would encourage new customers to register early and for existing customers to renew promptly and ensure uninterrupted collections. It all helps us create a greener, cleaner Newark and Sherwood for everyone.”
