Record-Breaking Donation Year for Palace Presents
Posted on: Friday, December 19, 2025The generosity of Newark and Sherwood residents has shone brighter than ever this festive season, with an incredible 535 donated presents ensuring hundreds of local people in need will wake up to a gift on Christmas morning. This remarkable total represents a 73% increase on last year’s 309 gifts; an additional 226 presents shared with those who need them most.
The Palace Theatre’s annual gift donation scheme, Palace Presents, has seen extraordinary growth, with this year’s collection far surpassing previous years. Over recent weeks, the community delivered a stunning array of beautifully wrapped gifts, demonstrating a powerful spirit of kindness at a time when many families are facing increased financial pressures.
Donations included new and unused items such as chocolates, biscuits, books, toys and games, self‑care and beauty sets, warm winter accessories, covered hot water bottles, and essential household items perfect for those setting up a new home.
This year’s gifts were distributed to Newark Women’s Aid, Newark Emmaus Trust, and Beaumond House Hospice Care, supporting women, children, young people and adults across the district.
Upon collecting their presents, the charities shared their heartfelt thanks:
Newark Women’s Aid said: “A Phenomenal response and such generosity when times are hard and to see people show they care is heartwarming. No matter how big or small their gift, every single present brings joy to everyone. The women and their children we support are always so very grateful.”
Beaumond House Hospice Care said: “Beaumond House is incredibly grateful for the generosity shown through the Palace Theatre Present scheme. Each gift will be carefully shared with our patients across day therapy, Hospice at Home and the hospice itself. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts - your kindness is truly appreciated.”
Newark Emmaus Trust said: “Thank you very much for the Palace Theatre and Jennie in particular for making such fantastic donations for the young people in Newark we support. Christmas can be a lonely time because they are the ones with nobody so this makes a really big difference to them. This scheme is very special.”
Special thanks also go to MES Building Solutions, Hills of Newark, and Highfields School for their large donations. A particularly touching contribution came from the children at Little Loco’s Day Nursery, who donated gifts in hand‑decorated bags. Staff across Newark and Sherwood District Council also joined in, gathering additional presents at Castle House.
Councillor Rowan Cozens, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Heritage, Culture and the Arts at Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “To have received so many gifts this year truly shows how kind, generous, and selfless the people of Newark and Sherwood are. The response has been nothing short of incredible. We’ve received 535 gifts this Christmas, a huge increase from 309 last year, and a fantastic achievement for our community. I’m so proud of everyone who contributed. These presents will make a real and meaningful difference to the people opening them on Christmas Day. Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!”
The Palace Theatre will continue sprinkling festive cheer right up until Wednesday 31 December with their spectacular pantomime, a magical adventure filled with music, laughter, and festive fun for all ages.
