Newark Castle launches new website – your go-to guide for history, access and updates
Posted on: Friday, December 12, 2025Newark Castle and Gardens has officially launched its brand-new website, newarkcastleandgardens.co.uk.
This modern, mobile-friendly platform is designed to help residents and visitors plan their trips, discover the Castle’s remarkable past, and follow progress on the exciting Gatehouse Project, which began in July 2025.
Standing proudly on the banks of the River Trent for nearly nine centuries, Newark Castle is one of the district’s most iconic landmarks. While the Castle itself is currently closed to visitors due to essential building and restoration works, the new website ensures everyone can stay connected and informed. It’s the central hub for:
- Gatehouse Project news with updates, visuals, FAQs, and timelapse cameras showing progress in real time.
- Heritage stories spanning 900 years of history, from medieval power to Civil War sieges and King John’s final days.
- Visitor information when the project is complete, and the Castle grounds and gardens are reopened.
Visitors can also find details on volunteering opportunities and venue hire for the future and learning resources to bring Newark’s history to life.
Councillor Rowan Cozens, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Heritage, Culture and the Arts at Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “This new website is the go-to destination for everything Newark Castle. It makes planning visits simple, keeps residents informed about the Gatehouse Project, and celebrates the incredible history of this landmark. Even while restoration works are underway, the site ensures everyone stays connected to the Castle’s story.”
The Gatehouse Project, funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Government’s Local Regeneration Fund and Newark and Sherwood District Council, will transform the visitor experience with new galleries, lift access, and a spectacular tower-top viewing platform. While works continue until Autumn 2026, a limited section of the gardens remains open for public enjoyment.
