Councillor Peacock said, “It’s incredibly encouraging to receive this letter confirming the Government’s backing for the A46 Newark Bypass. This is a vital step forward for our district and a clear sign that our collective efforts are paying off.

"While we are still awaiting planning approval, expected in the autumn, this update gives us confidence that the scheme is progressing. The A46 is a key route connecting the M1 and Leicester to the A1 and central Lincolnshire. This funding will help unlock economic growth, improve freight and business connectivity, and ease congestion for our residents.

"This support is part of the Government’s Plan for Change and has been a long time coming. The lack of robust road infrastructure has long been a barrier to investment in our district, causing gridlock and frustration for residents. Although this investment should have been made years ago, I’m proud that through the combined efforts of councillors, officers, local authorities, businesses, and Mayor Claire Ward, we’ve reached this milestone.

"This announcement is fantastic news for drivers who regularly face delays, and for our economy, where better access can bring new jobs and business opportunities. It remains a top priority for the District Council, and I look forward to the next steps on this exciting journey to bring the Bypass to fruition.”
