“Local government touches the lives of everybody, every day”
Posted on: Thursday, April 3, 2025Newark and Sherwood District Council has published its latest Community Plan, setting out its priorities and major areas of work over the next two years.
Some £57 million is earmarked to continue the drive to improve peoples’ lives and tackle the barriers that prevent individuals, families and businesses from fulfilling their potential.
As well as strengthening the focus on the everyday services that people rely upon – like refuse collection, maintaining parks and playgrounds , tackling anti-social behaviour and managing 5,000 Council homes – the plan commits to progressing the re-development of Ollerton Town Centre; creation of a new, energy efficient industrial park within Clipstone; delivering the ‘gatehouse’ scheme for Newark Castle; provision of 5 new sports pitches across the District; delivering the recently approved major regeneration scheme at Yorke Drive; investing in the creation of a new, locally managed CCTV control centre; completing the re-development of the former Newark M&S store; rolling out a new food waste recycling service; further investment in de-carbonising Council property and tackling the increasing challenges associated with flooding.
John Robinson, Chief Executive of Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “Given the ongoing pressure on public finances, this is another ambitious plan to improve the quality of life of the people we serve. With Local Government Re-organisation around the corner, we are determined to do everything we possibly can to leave a legacy as a high performing Council and one that lives out its ambition to put the needs of others as the heart of everything that we do.”
The Community Plan is one of a suite of documents setting out and defining the Council’s priorities.
