The second round of Newark and Sherwood District Council’s 2024-25 Community Grant Scheme has seen 15 local groups benefit from funding, supporting a wide range of community groups across the district.

Newark and Sherwood District Council serves more than 121,000 residents by providing countless services.  These include collecting bins, looking after lost animals, keeping streets clean, managing parks and open spaces, removing fly-tips, tackling anti-social behaviour, removing graffiti, managing food hygiene ratings on eating premises, running a planning service, investigating planning breaches, investigating noise problems, looking after litter bins, supporting those fleeing domestic violence and those being made homeless, processing benefit payments, administering Central Government business and residential grants when necessary, running business workshops and delivering trade and medical waste collection services.

A new self-contained toilet, changing and showering facility is now open at the Dukeries Leisure Centre. Funded by Newark and Sherwood District Council the facility will mean customers using the leisure centre who require accessible amenities will now be able to change safely and comfortably.

On Saturday 25 January, Rainworth and Blidworth Boxing Club officially reopened for the community, following essential improvements undertaken on site. The Club has successfully raised over £120,000 to help fund works, with £100,000 awarded from Newark and Sherwood District Council through the Rural England Prosperity Fund and UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Two properties on the Yorke Drive estate in Newark have seen their closure orders extended after breaching their orders. The District Council in partnership with Nottinghamshire Police have extended the closure order on 148 Yorke Drive until 15 April 2025 while 91 Yorke Drive has seen a partial closure order extended until 14 April 2025.

Newark and Sherwood District Council owns around 5,500 homes for social and affordable rent and is committed to improving their service for all their tenants.  There are plans to further invest in the repairs service, building safety, and meet energy-efficiency targets by 2030. In order to achieve these objectives, rent and services charges to tenants have been reviewed.

A mini exhibition at the National Civil War Centre is now on display, offering an insight into food and drink preparation through the decades. Celebrating the display’s location, in the foyer between the museum and Café Nineteen20, the objects all have a catering theme and evoke memories and images of kitchens over the past 100 years.
