Junior Ranger Sessions Now Available Over the Easter Holidays
Posted on: Tuesday, March 26, 2024Junior Rangers is back for the Easter Holidays, with two upcoming sessions for children ages 8-12! Junior Rangers is designed to help children learn and discover the wonders of nature through outdoor activities in Newark and Sherwood’s local parks and woodlands.
Councillor Emma Oldham, Portfolio Holder for Biodiversity and Environmental Services at Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: "We're excited to bring back this unique learning experience to the children in our community."
“Junior Rangers is a programme that encourages children to learn by exploring and engaging with their natural environment and develop a deep connection with nature.
As a qualified Forest Schools practitioner myself, I've witnessed firsthand the unique opportunity these types of sessions deliver - from developing new and exciting skills in a fun environment, to building a lasting appreciation and understanding of the natural world around us.”
The Junior Ranger sessions are all about learning by doing and having fun along the way. Children can learn and engage in hands-on activities, surrounded by nature and explore, discover, and play to their heart's content. Our experienced Junior Ranger leaders are trained in first aid and are passionate about helping children develop important life skills such as teamwork, communication, and self-confidence. They'll guide participants through a variety of activities such as nature walks, outdoor games, and plant and animal identification.
The Junior Rangers program will host two Easter sessions at Vicar Water Country Park and Sconce and Devon Park that focus on arts and nature, during which the children will get to create sculptures and dream catchers using materials found in nature, create their own art pieces using materials around the park, learn about birds including how to spot and identify them, and more! The session are being held at:
- Sconce and Devon Park on April 4, 2pm – 3.30pm
- Vicar Water Country Park, April 9, 2pm – 3.30pm
