The District Council warns fly tipping offenders “we are after you.”

Both fly-tips were reported on Wednesday 27 September and the District Council’s Environmental teams have been working to clear the illegally dumped waste and are conducting a thorough investigation to identify those responsible.

One of the fly-tips, which included waste that appears to be broken apart caravan parts, was dumped from the A616 Dark Turn lay-by towards the A617 at 6:30pm on Wednesday 27 September. The second, which also consisted of broken apart caravan parts, was dumped in Barnby around 1:30pm on Wednesday 27 September.

Councillor Emma Oldham, Portfolio Holder for Biodiversity and Environmental Services at Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “We work hard alongside so many residents in our district to keep our communities clean and safe, and it is completely unacceptable that there are people out there who believe they can flout the law and spoil the efforts of so many.

“Fly-tipping is a blight on our community and can be extremely damaging to our local environment and wildlife. The removal of the waste and the resulting investigation are necessary steps we must take but they require time, money and resources that could be better spent elsewhere in our communities. Those responsible should be warned that we are after you and we will work hard to ensure they face the consequences for their selfish actions.

“I want to urge anyone who may have any information about the two recent incidents to please get in touch with us. You may think it is an insignificant detail, but it could be a vital piece of information to help us identify the culprits and stop them in their tracks.”

The District Council warns that those who ignore the law and fly-tip waste could be heavily fined, and in severe cases even receive a prison sentence. If the case is taken to the Crown Court, the fine is unlimited and could result in up to five years in prison.

The District Council also strongly advises residents to check that anyone removing their waste has the required licenses. If your waste is not disposed of legitimately, it will be your responsibility and will be considered fly-tipping. You can check the valid waste carrier’s license easily through the Environment Agency website.

Alternatively, residents are able to use the household waste and recycling centres.
