Film Favourites Return To Stunning Setting

For the first time since the pandemic began, local film fans can finally return to the stunning atmosphere of the National Civil War Centre’s Tudor Hall for a specially selected season of movies.

The Swords, Sorcery, Shoot-Outs and Sovereigns programme begins on Wednesday 11th May with 1965’s For A Few Dollars More. This Sergio Leone spaghetti western, starring Clint Eastwood as the Man With No Name, was the last film to be shown at the neighbouring Palace Theatre when it was The Palace cinema, making it the perfect choice to kick off a brand new season of entertainment.

The Tudor setting particularly shines when hosting period pieces so the programme is packed with rich historical spectacles like The Last Duel, a recent critics’ favourite starring Jodie Comer, Ben Matt Damon and Adam Driver which follows various conflicting accounts of the circumstances around the last duel fought in France. Continuing with the medieval tone is the much-loved A Knight’s Tale featuring the late Heath Ledger as a penniless squire who poses as a knight. Audiences can also enjoy Olivia Colman’s Oscar-winning turn in The Favourite and David Bowie cult classic Labyrinth.

The venue has previously hosted a sold-out screening of Sleepy Hollow and this year, as then, all of the films will be introduced by resident film aficionado Adam Nightingale who will unveil fascinating facts about the making of each title.

Venue manager Carys Coulton-Jones said: “The Tudor Hall is such a unique setting and a fantastic space in which to appreciate these carefully chosen films. Our team is full of film fans who’ve excelled themselves in crafting this programme which I’m sure will appeal to a wide range of visitors.”

All tickets are just £5 with screenings beginning at 7pm. For the full programme and to book your tickets, please visit www.nationalcivilwarcentre.com/.
