As part of their work to help young people access new exciting opportunities, Newark and Sherwood District Council has awarded Volunteer it Yourself (VIY) £60k of UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) to complete two further volunteer skills development projects.

On Monday 13 May, Newark and Sherwood District Council hosted its very first meeting with the sole purpose of celebrating and promoting the benefits music can offer our community.

Over 70 people attended and Councillor Rowan Cozens, Deputy Leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council and Portfolio Holder for Heritage, Culture and the Arts chaired this important inaugural meeting.

A number of Newark and Sherwood’s Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) will come to an end in 2024 and as such, a review of the PSPOs and the related information is being undertaken, and the Council has been reaching out to residents, businesses, partner agencies and wider groups to hear their thoughts.

Southwell Leisure Centre is owned by the Southwell Leisure Centre Trust. The District Council took over the management of the Centre in October 2021 because the Trust could not afford to run and maintain it. The centre is over 60 years old, and the main swimming pool had to be closed in October 2023 due to a substantial leakage of water of almost 9,000 litres per day caused by heavily corroded pipework.

On 29 October 2023, the main pool at Southwell Leisure Centre was closed. The pool was leaking 9,000 litres of water a day and the safety of users of the pool could not be guaranteed. Southwell Leisure Centre Trust, the owners of the leisure centre, supported the closure of the pool.
