The 2025/2026 Community Grant Scheme is open for applications!

Posted on: Tuesday, April 8, 2025

Newark and Sherwood District Council have today launched their 2025/2026 Community Grant Scheme. The grant scheme gives community groups, charities and eligible parish councils from across the district the chance to apply for up to £20,000 to help deliver projects and initiatives that will improve the lives of residents.

To be successful, applicants must demonstrate that the project takes place within the district, that there is a local need for it, and how it contributes to one or more of the District Council’s Community Plan Ambitions. They must also include financial information to support the application.

Smaller Parish Councils that serve fewer than 100 dwellings are also now eligible to apply for funding.

Extra weighting will be given for projects whose applications can show they:

  • Contribute to overcoming the cost-of-living crisis
  • Contribute to public protection by reducing crime or antisocial behaviour
  • Improve biodiversity or contribute to reducing climate change
  • Projects that can demonstrate match funding (above £5k).

Groups can read more about the eligibility requirements and apply for funding by visiting the district council’s website: https://www.newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk/communityfunding/. The closing date for applications is 5pm on Friday 9 May 2025.

In 2024/25, the District Council was able to support 31 groups in delivering a range of projects, from updating local sports provision to providing equipment and materials to help residents get out in the great outdoors and enjoy nature via their local allotment. In addition, the Community Grant Scheme has supported organisations that needed to make vital updates to their community facilities so they could reach more people and funded new training sessions that enabled residents to gain new skills and qualifications.

Suzanne Shead, Director of Housing, Health and Wellbeing at Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “It is great news that we have been able launch this year’s Community Grant Scheme! Last year we were able to help an impressive 31 community groups deliver projects and initiatives that are having a positive impact on the quality of our resident’s lives. We know how important this grant scheme is to groups and charities who may not be able to access funding through traditional channels. This year, we are also able to help those smaller parish councils who serve less than 100 dwellings who previously would not have had the chance to apply.

“I encourage any group or charities who has a project, programme or initiative that could benefit a boost of funding from the Community Grant Scheme to apply. If you are unsure, please contact our brilliant Community Development team to discuss – we are here to help and support however we can.”

Applicants are encouraged to contact the District Council's Community Development team by emailing communityengagement@newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk or calling 01636 650 000 if they require advice or support with their application.
