Enjoy the spectacle as the Lloyds Bank Tour of Britain returns to Newark and Sherwood

As welcoming crowds are expected to line the route of stage 4 of the Lloyds Bank Tour of Britain Men’s Race Newark and Sherwood District Council has issued advance warning of possible traffic delays through the district.

Spectators are welcome to come and see stage 4 of the race, which is due to arrive in Blidworth at around 12:25pm. The race will then continue through the district until it arrives at Sconce and Devon Park in Newark at around 2:15pm.

The race will largely be managed using a rolling road closure as in past years, but where the race crosses main roads, such as the A614 at the Blidworth/Farnsfield crossroads, motorists may experience some disruption.

It is important that residents and visitors obey race marshals, temporary road closures and parking restriction signs as they are in place to protect both spectators and competitors.

As the race enters Newark there will be some disruption along Northgate and Castle Gate, in particular access into and out of the retail parks along the route could be impacted. If you are using those car parks, please be mindful of the local parking restrictions and allow time for the rolling road closure to pass.

There will also be hard road closures throughout the day around the finishing line in Newark. These will be clearly signposted, residents and affected businesses have been notified.

Councillor Paul Peacock, Leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council explains, “We urge people using the roads on Friday to be aware that the race is taking place. We have contacted local businesses, surgeries and dentists to inform them of possible delays, but if you have an appointment between noon and 2:30pm we advise you to allow a little extra time just in case,

“We are delighted to welcome the Lloyds Bank Tour of Britain back to our district on Friday. It’s been really heartening to see so many local shops and businesses get into the spirit of the race.

“We want visitors who are coming to see the race pass through our towns and villages to stay a while and enjoy what our local communities and independent retailers have to offer.

“It isn’t often that the public gets the chance to see international sports stars competing live without having to pay for the privilege. There will be Olympic medal winners and up and coming stars this year which will make the Tour even more special. Seeing live sport can be inspirational, who knows, maybe the medal winners of tomorrow could come from one of our towns or villages!

“We hope to see lots of people at the finish in Sconce and Devon Park, it was an amazing event last year, and should be again this year.

“I’d personally like to thank everyone involved for bringing the Tour of Britain back to Newark and Sherwood, especially all the communities along the route who have got into the spirit of the day by either decorating the route or by coming out to cheer the cyclists through the district.”
