Nominations open for Newark and Sherwood Community and Sports Awards 2024

Posted on: Monday, June 10, 2024

The Newark and Sherwood Community and Sports Awards are back again and this year it’s being organised by Newark and Sherwood District Council in partnership with Radio Newark. The district is home to incredible individuals who go above and beyond to support our community and champion the growth of sports.

This year’s awards take place on Friday 20 September at The Renaissance at Kelham Hall in Newark with nominations open from Monday 10 June until Saturday 6 July.

Last year, twelve worthy winners were awarded for their work in the community and sports with 300 guests in attendance. This is the second year that the awards have included Sherwood and the District Council has worked closely with Active4Today to incorporate more sport categories.

Suzanne Shead, Director of Housing Health and Wellbeing at Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “Our district is full of amazing individuals who do great things in our communities. Whether it be helping neighbours in an emergency, working as backroom staff for a sports club or inspiring others to contribute to the area, there’s so much to celebrate.

“Often these individuals do not get the recognition they deserve so this award ceremony is the perfect opportunity to say thank you to those that deserve it the most.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what nominations come in and excited to celebrate the amazing accomplishments of our residents across the district.”

The Renaissance at Kelham Hall is the venue once again and this year it is a gold sponsor at the awards. Alex Hopkin, Meetings and Events Sales Manager at The Renaissance at Kelham Hall, said: ““We’re thrilled to be hosting the Community and Sports Awards once again and we’re excited to hear about all the amazing stories from our community. The Renaissance at Kelham Hall is the perfect venue to celebrate the districts greatest accomplishments and this year, we’re also sponsoring the Courage and Bravery Award.

“We’re looking for those people who do something exceptional and exemplary when it comes to showing great heroics in difficult times.”

Active4Today will also be gold sponsors and this year they are sponsoring the Creating Change for Sport and Physical Activity Award. Andy Carolan, Managing Director of Active4Today, said: “In Newark and Sherwood we’re lucky to have so many residents who go out their way to support their community and we have lots of sporting stars who make us proud.

“At Active4Today we support a wide range of sporting clubs to get much needed funding and to improve the facilities in the area to provide more opportunities for people to be active. We’re a proud sporting district and these awards celebrate some of the great sporting accomplishments from the past year.”

During the night, award winners will be treated to a two-course meal, award ceremony and party. In total there are 13 categories which people can be nominated for. You can nominate a friend, family member, stranger, or an employee at your favourite store.

Once you have chosen your amazing person and relevant award, simply fill in the form and it’ll go to the nomination panel to choose a winner.

If you’re lucky to be chosen by the panel, Newark and Sherwood District Council will be in touch and invite you to the night.
