Town’s colourful canopy captured in competition
Posted on: Friday, June 9, 2023Social media has been awash with your photos of the stunning Newark Creates and ADHD Foundation umbrellas installation, promoting awareness of neurodiversity. And now, your snaps could win you even more than praise. A competition has been launched where the most creative shot, decided by professional photographer Stuart Wilde and the Town Mayor of Newark Councillor Pamela Ball, will win a host of tickets to events and festivals across the town this year.
Newark Creates is a three-year cultural programme, led by Newark Cultural Consortium as part of the Hig h Streets Heritage Action Zones scheme. Cultural Programme Co-ordinator Sara Bullimore, who works for Inspire: Culture, Learning and Libraries, the lead partner in the Consortium, said: “The pictures we’ve been seeing online have been really fantastic. We’re so happy that this display is inspiring people to get creative as well as spreading the important message about awareness and inclusivity that the installation represents. Just like the umbrellas celebrating traits which make us unique, we’re looking for photos which are original and look at the display in a different way.”
All that people need to do to enter is post their photo to Facebook or Instagram tagging @NewarkCreatesUK with #NewarkCreates23. Entrants will need to ensure their posts are set to public and that they follow Newark Creates. Prizes include tickets to Newark Book Festival, various other events in Newark this year and an umbrella in the colour of your choice.
Councillor Paul Peacock, Leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council, another partner in the Consortium, said: “I know that our residents are talented and imaginative, and I personally look forward to seeing their different approaches to this challenge. Newark looks fantastic at the moment with the colourful umbrellas and I’m very proud that our district is leading the charge with the largest display of this kind as part of the initiative by the ADHD Foundation – The Neurodiversity Charity.”
The competition will close at 5pm on Friday 16th June and the winner will be announced at Newark Creates family performance events at Newark Castle on Sunday 18th June.
