Community Chest fund applications open
Posted on: Friday, October 7, 2022Community projects with the aim of making social housing areas Cleaner, Safer and Greener may be eligible for up to £1,000 of Council funding.
Newark and Sherwood District Council has opened up applications for grants as part of its Community Chest scheme which is into its second year.
The grants can be used to support a range of projects that will specifically improve amenities in or around social housing areas, including projects with the aim of:
- Resolving community identified issues
- Reducing anti-social behaviour around social housing
- Supporting safety and security measures
- Increasing wellbeing and mental health of tenants
- Tackling issues relating to waste management, litter and dog fouling
- Helping vulnerable groups or individuals
- Supporting tenants into education, learning and volunteering opportunities.
Councillor David Lloyd, Leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: "I am very proud that we’re continuing with our Community Chest scheme. It is a great way for the Council to help those who do such amazing and varied work in neighbourhoods across our district.
“Community Chest grants will support people working right at the beating heart of their community. It is important to us to provide vital financial aid to sustainable initiatives and support the continued efforts of local spirit.”
During the past year, funds we’re raised for multiple projects including improving communal gardens at Bakewell Court in Balderton, organising a spruce up day at South View in Newark and providing tenants with garden tools to grow their own vegetables at De Lacy Court in Ollerton

Applications can be made any time with two rounds taking place within a year. The first round of applications for tenants, leaseholders and officers is open until Friday 21 October. The panel will be sitting in November to discuss the applications with the second round of applications taking part in January 2023.
