Residents invited to a Neighbourhood Watch community meeting
Posted on: Friday, November 4, 2022Newark and Sherwood District Council are inviting residents to a Bridge Ward community meeting to discuss the Neighbourhood Watch scheme, on Friday 11 November.
Residents are invited to join the meeting at Bridge Community Centre from 6pm to 7pm. In attendance will be officers from the District Council’s Public Protection and Housing teams, and officers from the Police Bridge Beat team.
The Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator will be attending the meeting discuss the scheme and chat with residents about what support is available if they wish to set up any new schemes in the local area.
For residents where a scheme is currently up and running, this will be an opportunity to connect with other residents involved in their local group. Residents can also raise any queries they may have or come along for a coffee and discuss their experience of being a Neighbourhood Watch member.
Neighbourhood Watch was first established in 1982 and since then has been working to bring residents together to prevent crime. The scheme is the largest crime prevention voluntary movement in England and Wales, and has upwards of 2.3 million members.
Councillor Roger Jackson, Portfolio Holder for Cleaner, Safer, Greener at Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “The Neighbour Hood Watch Scheme is a brilliant way for residents and officers from the District Council and Police to work together to create a more positive community.
“We all want to live in a cleaner, safer, and greener district, and seeing residents get involved in working towards that is fantastic and I encourage all residents who are interested to attend this meeting and see how they can help.”
