Palace Panto Puts Smiles on Faces in First Week

A royal ball has arrived in Newark as the Palace Theatre’s spectacular pantomime Cinderella is now underway. The show opened its doors on Tuesday 6th December and has so far entertained thousands of school children during the week as well as local dignitaries, officials and press at a gala evening last Saturday.

Cinderella is the Palace Theatre Newark’s second collaboration with Jordan Productions, following last year’s much-loved show Dick Whittington and His Cat, and the panto partnership continues to be a success with resounding praise from all who have attended so far.

Audiences have been particularly wowed by the spellbinding songs, stunning special effects and fantastic cast featuring Nottinghamshire’s own Anna Unwin as Cinderella and Adam Colbeck Dunn as Buttons, who’s been a particular hit with kids; Donnacha, aged 10, who was in the audience for Saturday evening’s show, said: “[My favourite] bit about the show was the Elvis Presley bit. The best person was Buttons for me because of his jokes.”

Connie, aged 11, also loved the show, saying: “I really liked how everything moved really smoothly and even if something went wrong, they covered it up and it was really funny the whole way through!”

Scarlet, aged 7, enjoyed discovering a new twist on one of her favourite fairy tales, saying: “I really liked the show because there were a lot things that weren’t actually in Cinderella that were added.”

Councillor Rhona Holloway, Portfolio Holder for Economic Development and Visitors at Newark and Sherwood District Council, was also in attendance on Saturday and said: “This was my first panto experience for many years but I had a fabulous time. I really enjoyed being part of such an engaged audience and loved watching the reactions of people around me, especially the children who were having so much fun.

“The cast were amazing and the costumes and sets were brilliant; I particularly loved the horse and carriage which was a truly jaw-dropping moment. I wholeheartedly recommend booking and will definitely be going again myself. I’m already looking forward to the next production at the amazing Palace Theatre which is such an asset to our district.”

Cinderella is running at the Palace Theatre Newark until Saturday 31st December and tickets, from just £15.50, are on sale now at www.palacenewark.com or by calling the Box Office on 01636 655755 during opening hours of Wednesday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm.
