Fly Grazing
Fly grazing is the deliberate act of leaving horses on land without the landowner’s permission. It’s a major cause of horse welfare issues as horses are often left without adequate shelter, food and water and can be tethered for hours.
Watch this video to find out more about why and how we’re taking action, as well as the considerations for horse ownership.
Report fly grazing
If you’ve had horses placed on your land illegally or know of someone else who has, contact us for information and guidance.
If you see a horse on a play area, a sports centre, next to a public building or other such public place, you should contact the owners in the first instance (if known) or report it to us on 01636 650000. Do not approach the horse until you have spoken to us as it may be distressed and cause you injury.
Horses on the highway
If you spot an unaccompanied horse on the public highway you should contact the police on 999. If you spot a horse tethered on a public verge next to the highway you should contact Nottinghamshire County Council on 0300 500 80 80.
