Polling stations will be open from 7am until 10pm.

Registering to Vote

You can only vote if your name is on the Register of Electors.

The current register was last published on 1 December 2019. If you are not registered to vote, have moved address, changed your name or nationality, you can apply to register online.

Applications should be made by Tuesday 26 November 2019 to register for this election.

If you cannot register online, please contact us. If you are already registered correctly, you do not need to register again for this election.

Postal and Proxy Voting

Postal Voting

The last day for apply for a postal vote was Tuesday 26 November 2019 for this election.

If you are granted a postal vote, you will not be able to vote in person at this election.

Postal ballot papers will be delivered by the following dates:

  • Wednesday 27 November 2019 if we receive the completed application by Monday 18 November 2019
  • Wednesday 4 December 2019 if we receive the completed application by 5pm on Tuesday 26 November 2019

Proxy Voting

If you would like to appoint a proxy to vote on your behalf, you will need to complete a proxy vote application form.

This application form should be completed and returned to us by 5pm on Wednesday 4 December 2019 if it is to be effective for this election.

If you appoint a proxy to vote in person for you, you can still vote yourself, but only if your proxy has not already voted on your behalf. This form must not be completed with an electronic signature. You can complete and return this form to the address shown on the form or scan the completed form and it email to us voting@newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk.

Appointing an emergency proxy

If you have become unable to vote in person since the deadline to apply to appoint a proxy on proxy deadline date because of either Illness (PDF File, 75kb) or due to Employment (PDF File, 67kb), you can apply for an emergency proxy. This application form should be completed and returned to us by 5pm on polling day if it is to be effective for this election. This form must not be completed with an electronic signature. You can complete and return this form to the address shown on the form or scan the completed form and email to: voting@newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk. If you cannot print this form please contact us.

Notice of Election

A notice of election publicises the election and gives the date in which prospective candidates must submit a nomination paper and consent to nomination.

Candidates

Nominations are now closed. The deadline for nominations was 4pm on Thursday 14 November 2019.

Notice of Election Agents

The Notice of Election Agents for the Newark Constituency (PDF File, 443kb) and Notice of Election Agents for the Sherwood Constituency (PDF File, 447kb) are now published.

Counting of the votes

Firstly, the ballot boxes will be verified to ensure that the number of ballot papers in each box is the number that has been issued.

Postal ballot papers that are to be included in the count will also be verified. Once all votes are verified, the ballot papers will be sorted and counted for each candidate.

  • Counting of the votes for the Newark constituency will take place at Newark Sports and Fitness Centre, Bowbridge Road, Newark, NG24 4DH
  • Counting of the votes for for the Sherwood constituency will take place at the Dukeries Leisure Centre, Main Road, Boughton, NG22 9JJ

Verification and counting of the votes will following the close of poll on Thursday 12 December 2019.

The results will be published as soon as possible following the count.

Accreditation is strictly reserved for members of the press - print media, photo, radio, TV and news agencies.

Accreditation will be granted upon presentation of valid press credentials including a completed online accreditation form
