Registering to vote

The current register was last published on 1 December 2018. If you are not registered to vote, have moved address, changed your name or nationality, you can apply to register online.

You can only vote if your name is on the register.

Applications should be made by Tuesday 7 May 2019 to register for this election.

If you cannot register online, please contact us.

If you are already registered correctly, you do not need to register again for this election.

EU Citizens 

If you are a European Union citizen you can only vote in local government elections.

You can also vote at European Parliamentary elections if you complete the European Union citizen registration form (PDF File, 88kb) recently sent, stating that you wish to vote in the UK and not in your home country.

The deadline for the return of this form is Tuesday 7 May 2019

Postal and Proxy Voting

Postal voting

If you would like to vote by post, you will need to complete a postal vote application form. 

This application form should be completed and returned to us by 5pm on Wednesday 8 May 2019 if it is to be effective for this election.

If you are granted a postal vote, you will not be able to vote in person at this election. This form must not be completed with an electronic signature. If you cannot print this form please contact us.

Postal ballot papers should be delivered by the following dates:

  • Friday 10 May 2019 or Saturday 11 May 2019 if we receive the completed application by noon on Tuesday 23 April 2019.
  • Tuesday 14 May 2019 or Wednesday 15 May 2019 if we receive the completed application by 5pm on Wednesday 8 May 2019.

If you are away around these dates, we may be able to send your postal vote to a different address. You should contact us to see if this is possible. Alternatively, you could appoint a proxy who could vote on your behalf.

Proxy voting

If you would like to appoint a proxy to vote on your behalf, you will need to complete a proxy vote application form. This application form should be completed and returned to us by 5pm on Wednesday 15 May 2019 if it is to be effective for this election.

If you have appointed a proxy to vote in person for you, you can still vote yourself, but ONLY if your proxy has not already voted on your behalf. This form must not be completed with an electronic signature. If you cannot print this form please contact us.

Appointing an emergency proxy

If you have become unable to vote in person since the deadline to apply to appoint a proxy on proxy deadline date because of either Illness (PDF File, 75kb) or due to Employment (PDF File, 67kb), you can apply for an emergency proxy. This application form should be completed and returned to us by 5pm on polling day if it is to be effective for this election. This form must not be completed with an electronic signature. Counting of the votes

Firstly, the ballot boxes will be verified to ensure that the number of ballot papers in each box is the number that has been issued. Postal ballot papers that are to be included in the count will also be verified. Once all votes are verified, the ballot papers will be sorted and counted for each party and candidate.

The verification of the ballot boxes will take place at Newark Sports and Fitness Centre, Bowbridge Road, Newark, NG24 4DH, following the close of poll at 10pm on Thursday, 23 May 2019.

The counting of the votes will take place at Newark Sports and Fitness Centre, Bowbridge Road, Newark, NG24 4DH, at 6pm on Sunday 26 May 2019.
