5 October 2018

SPORTING talent and commitment will again be rewarded in the Newark and Sherwood Sports Awards 2018 – organised by Active4Today on behalf of Newark and Sherwood District Council, in conjunction with Radio Newark.

Do you know a sportsperson who has gone that extra mile?
Do you know a team which has pulled together when times were tough?
Do you know a coach who has guided a sportsperson through to victory? Do you know somebody that has committed a number of hours voluntarily to support a club, individual or team?

If the answer is ‘yes’ to any of the above questions, please forward your nominations and give them the opportunity to get the recognition they deserve.

 This year’s categories are:

• Junior Sportsperson of the Year
• Junior Team of the Year
• Junior Disabled Sportsperson of the Year
• Sam White Junior Volunteer of the Year
• Senior Team of the Year
• Senior Sportsperson of the Year
• Senior Disabled Sportsperson of the Year

• Roll of Honour

Active4Today director of communities Alexis Knock said: “We are delighted to be running these awards again with our partner, Radio Newark in the same format that was so successful last year.  This is an opportunity to shine a light on sport in Newark and Sherwood and the many individuals, teams and clubs who make the sporting scene in the district thrive”.

In addition this year, with the sad passing of Newark Advertiser sports reporter Warwick Lane very recently, the organising team have been talking closely with Rick’s family and are pleased to announce that the Junior Sportsperson category will be renamed the ‘Warwick Lane Junior Sportsperson of the Year’.  Alexis said “This is a truly fitting tribute to a passionate sportsman, who principally through his work with the Advertiser did everything he could to ensure that the profile of any sport locally was as high as it could possibly be.  He worked closely with a range of clubs, coaches and individuals to get their story heard, as well as working with ourselves at Active4Today and Radio Newark”.

Maddie Croft was one of our worthy winners in 2017 and she told us: “I was totally surprised and very honoured to be presented with the Sam White Young Volunteer of the Year Award last year. It was great to receive recognition for the time put in coaching and refereeing rugby and I hope that I have been a role model for other young people that it’s very rewarding to be able to offer others a positive experience of the sport and to be able to give something back to the sport that has given me so much.”
