We aim to work with landlords and agents to ensure responsible renting through advice and encouragement.
In 2006, a House Condition Survey was carried out as part of a major project undertaken to map and monitor private sector housing conditions across the East Midlands region.
The council ensures that private sector homes, both privately rented and owner-occupied, are of good quality and meet the current legal standards. Complaints of disrepair and housing safety issues are investigated.
A service which matches potential tenants with privately rented properties.
We are urging privately rented tenants experiencing problems within their tenancy to seek help at the earliest opportunity. 30% of tenants become homeless locally due to a wide range of issues including difficulties in paying their rent on time, disputes over the condition of a property and the serving of a notice to quit.
Advice and assistance is available and tenants are being reassured that they should not feel alone but should contact their local Housing Options Team on 01636 650000 as soon as possible.
Alternatively, free, independent, confidential and impartial advice is available through Citizens Advice who can be contacted on 0344 411 1444 or via the Gov.uk website.
