If you are disabled or infirm, grants are available to adapt your home to help make it safer and more easily accessible.
The Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) system is aimed at providing financial assistance to a disabled person for measures like stair lifts, replacing baths with showers, additional heating and works to improve accessibility. The works must be recommended by an occupational therapist from Nottinghamshire County Council.
If you apply for a DFG a financial test will be carried out to see if you need to make any contribution to the cost of the work. If you’re eligible, in the majority of cases, the grants are mandatory. Most will have no repayment conditions but the cost of more expensive work may have to be repaid if the property is sold within 10 years.
If you require any further information on Disabled Facility Grants please do not hesitate to contact us.
We have now approved a standalone Disabled Facilities Grant Policy and this has been implemented as of April 2015.
This document contains information on eligibility for mandatory grant assistance, conditions relating to applications, approval and payment of grant and other relevant conditions and requirements.
All applications for grant from residents of the private housing sector will now be considered with regard to this policy.
The policy also sets out the limited circumstances under which we will provide discretionary assistance.
If you require further information or wish to discuss the policy in more detail please contact david.turton@nsdc.info
