Newark’s Buttermarket and Royal Exchange is now owned and managed in partnership by Newark and Sherwood District Council and Newark Town Council.
A phased plan of action is underway that will initially see activity and life brought back in the buildings. We will also be undertaking some refurbishments and repairs.
We see the iconic buildings as playing a major and strategic role in boosting the town’s retail, cultural and leisure offer.
A number of new shops are open in the Buttermarket in the short term (3 to 6 months) giving local and new ‘start-up’ enterprises a central high street position to enjoy. This has created a busy and vibrant atmosphere in the Buttermarket giving us time to formulate our longer term plans.
Disabled access is available via Chain Lane and Middlegate Entrances.

I'm Julie the owner of Wooly Wotnots. I am a fibre artist who lives in Newark. I started felting in January 2018 after my daughter bought me a small kit for Christmas, and now I'm well and truly hooked. I can usually be found every Friday in the Crafty Quarter on Newark Market, and I also have a stall on the monthly Artisan market.
You will be able to see my work in the Buttermarket each week Monday to Saturday 10am to 5pm.

As a mother I have some experience around children with additional needs and would like to offer extra time to families with special and additional needs so that they are comfortable and ready to go in front of the camera.
