New ownership of the Buttermarket

Newark’s Buttermarket and Royal Exchange is now owned and managed in partnership by Newark and Sherwood District Council and Newark Town Council.

A phased plan of action is underway that will initially see activity and life brought back in the buildings. We will also be undertaking some refurbishments and repairs.

We see the iconic buildings as playing a major and strategic role in boosting the town’s retail, cultural and leisure offer.

Our plans

A number of new shops are opening in the Buttermarket in the short term (3 to 6 months) giving local and new ‘start-up’ enterprises a central high street position to enjoy. This will create a busy and vibrant atmosphere in the Buttermarket giving us time to formulate our longer term plans.

The Newark Buttermarket welcomes acapella singers!

Saturday 15 June 2019 at 1pm

Local singing group ‘Ain’t What You Do’ has volunteered to entertain shoppers and visitors with an eclectic range of acapella harmonies.

Choir members live locally and would like to support the town centre and new businesses in the Buttermarket.

Temporary shop units (up to 12 week lease) in Newark Buttermarket

We have a space within the food quarter and Unit 28 is also currently free. We welcome start-up enterprises and retail, makers and crafters and any local business in need of temporary space.

Please contact Lee Robinson in the first instance for more information on 01636 655821.

Why Lizzi Was Late....

My name is Lizzi Rose and I love to paint what I'm feeling and photograph the beauty that surrounds us every day. Everywhere I look I see a picture and feel inspiration, so when the moment arises I have to act on it!

I'm lucky enough to have Balderton Lake on my doorstep, and mother nature ensures that it never ceases to amaze me and that I never tire of photographing what it has to offer. I also enjoy photographing the beautiful English countryside, the austere Scottish highlands and peaceful beaches.
