Horses on Private Land

If you have had horses placed on your land illegally or know of someone else who has, you can contact Newark and Sherwood District Council on 01636 655000 for information and guidance on how to deal with this matter.

Horses on Public Land

If you see a horse on a play area , a sports centre, next to a public building or other such public place, you should contact the owners in the first instance (if known) or Newark and Sherwood District Council on 01636 655000.

Horses on Public Road or Verge

If you spot a horse on the public highway you should contact the police on 999

If you spot a horse tethered on a public verge next to the highway you should contact Nottinghamshire County Council on 0300 500 80 80

If you see a horse that you believe is illegally placed on land without the landowners’ permission you can report it to us.
