We want to reduce the number of abandoned vehicles on our roads and we need your help to achieve this. Under the Refuse Disposal (Amenity) Act 1978, it is an offence to abandon a vehicle or parts of a vehicle on any land and a person convicted of this offence can be fined or imprisoned, or both.
We can also issue a fixed penalty ticket for £200 instead of taking court action for this offence.
Please report abandoned vehicles to us and provide as much information as possible to enable us to take positive action.
Take it to an authorised scrap yard.
If you leave your vehicle on any road or on open ground we will make enquiries into its current ownership and may prosecute you for abandoning it and to recover the council’s costs in dealing with it.
