Nottinghamshire County Council Election
The Nottinghamshire County Council election will take place on Thursday 4 May 2017. Polling stations will be open from 7am until 10pm.
You can only vote if your name is on the Register of Electors.
The Register of Electors
The current register was last published on 23 December 2016. If you are not registered to vote, have moved address or changed your name, you can apply to register online. Your application must be received by Thursday 13 April 2017 to register for this election. If you cannot register online, please contact us.
Postal and Proxy Voting
If you would like to vote by post, you will need to complete a postal vote application form (PDF File, 235kb). Your application must be received before 5pm on Tuesday 18 April 2017 if it is to be effective for this election. If you are granted a postal vote, you will NOT be able to vote in person at this election. This form must not be completed with an electronic signature. If you cannot print this form, please contact us.
Postal ballot papers should be delivered by the following dates: -
- Friday 21 April 2017 if we receive the completed application by 2pm on Tuesday 4 April 2017.
- Wednesday 26 April 2017 if we receive the completed application after 2pm on Tuesday 4 April 2017 and by 5pm on Tuesday 18 April 2017.
If you are away around these dates, we may be able to send your postal vote to a different address. You should contact us to see if this is possible. Alternatively, you could appoint a proxy who could vote on your behalf.
If you would like to appoint a proxy, which is someone to vote on your behalf, you will need to complete a proxy vote application form (PDF File, 236kb). Your application must be received before 5pm on Tuesday 25 April 2016 if it is to be effective for this election. If you have appointed a proxy to vote in person for you, you can still vote yourself, but ONLY if your proxy has not already voted on your behalf. Appointing an emergency proxy
If you have become unable to vote in person since the deadline to apply to appoint a proxy on 25 April 2017 because of either Illness (PDF File, 75kb)or due to Employment (PDF File, 67kb), you can apply for an emergency proxy. You application must be received by 5pm on polling day if it is to be effective for this election. This form must not be completed with an electronic signature. Notice of Election
The Notice of Election publicises the election and gives the date in which prospective candidates must submit a nomination paper and consent to nomination.
If you intend to stand as a candidate you must complete a nomination paper, consent to nomination and any other relevant forms contained in the Candidates Nomination Pack (PDF File, 271kb). These should be submitted by 4pm on Tuesday 4 April 2017. Further information can be found in Becoming a County Councillor (PDF File, 42kb).

Statement of Persons Nominated
The Statement of Persons Nominated will be published, no later than 4pm on Wednesday 5 April 2017.
Notice of Election Agents
The Notice of Election Agents will be published, no later than 4pm Tuesday 4 April 2017.
Notice of Poll, including polling places
The Notice of Poll will be published, no later than Tuesday 25 April 2017. This notice gives details of the remaining validly nominated candidates following the last date for a candidate to withdraw and the polling places to be used.
Counting of the votes
Firstly, the ballot boxes will be verified to ensure that the number of ballot papers in each box is the number that has been issued. Postal ballot papers that are to be included in the count will also be verified. Once all votes are verified, the ballot papers will be sorted and counted for each candidate.
The verification of the ballot boxes will take place at Newark Sports and Fitness Centre, Bowbridge Road, Newark, NG24 4DH, following the close of poll on Thursday 4 May 2017.
The counting of the votes will take place at Newark Sports and Fitness Centre, Bowbridge Road, Newark, NG24 4DH, at 10am on Friday 5 May 2017.
The Declaration of Result of Poll will be published as soon as possible following the count.
