New Register of Electors 2014
Under Individual Electoral Registration (IER), everyone in the household who is eligible to vote is responsible for registering themselves. A new Register of Electors will be published from 1 December 2014 and will be used at the Parliamentary and local elections held on Thursday 7 May 2015.
To simplify the transition to IER, we have matched the existing Register of Electors against the Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) database and will also match to local records (such as Council Tax). Those people whose entries could be matched will be confirmed as having individual entries on the register. We will write to them in August to confirm they do not need to do anything else.
We will write to everyone who needs to provide additional information from 11 August 2014 onwards. By law, you must then provide the information we are requesting. We will tell you clearly what you need to do and will provide all the help we can. For an individual person to register to vote please visit: https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
We will be sending initial Household Enquiry Forms (HEF) (to properties with no electors registered and those that did not respond to last year’s annual registration form) and Invitation to Register (ITR) forms (to electors who were not matched with DWP) in August, followed by a reminder in September.
You should register as soon as possible to ensure that you don’t miss out on the chance to vote. For more information on voting please visit: https://www.gov.uk/yourvotematters
Please register as soon as possible to ensure you have your right to vote and help us save money by not sending reminders or making personal visits.
