Historically host to several private country estates and a centre for agriculture, the rolling hills and patchwork fields meet the manicured parklands and ancient forests. This natural beauty combined with stunning architecture and diversity of habitat makes Newark and Sherwood one of the most picturesque areas in England.
Famously home to the legendary Robin Hood and the ancient Sherwood Forest, the district is rich in history and folklore. The pretty market towns of Newark and Southwell and the dozens of villages all have their unique stories to tell and special customs to maintain.
The historic and vibrant cities of Nottingham (to the West) and Lincoln (East) are within half an hour’s travel. The A1 national highway runs through the district and there is an East Coast Main Line railway station at Newark, with regular trains to London taking just over an hour to reach the capital. The neighbouring areas of Yorkshire, the Peak District and the east coast resorts are also easily accessible.
Newark and Sherwood is one of the most exciting and beautiful areas in the country and also provides a perfect base for exploring more of the Heart of England.
