Roads and roads closures

Static road closures will be in force at both the start of the race in Mansfield and at the finish in Newark.

Rolling road closures will operate throughout the middle section of the tour and delays are estimated at being around 30 minutes max in each town and village.

Rolling road closures in the district

The OVO Energy Tour of Britain race will require some road closures along the route.

The rolling road closures will be enforced by the police for around 15 minutes either side of the cyclists passing through a town or village (maximum closure of 30 minutes in total).

No parking zones on route

One thing that will make a huge difference to the success of the race is parked cars. Clear roads through towns and villages will be safer for both cyclists and spectators and will make our communities appear so much better on camera.

Local residents, businesses and visitors are asked to avoid parking their vehicles along the route through our towns and villages for a few hours while the tour passes through.

Within the district a few narrow roads will have legally enforceable no parking restrictions on the day and this includes a number of the roads in Newark at the finish. Notices and coned areas will be used. Illegally parked cars will be removed.

Safety Advice from the Tour of Britain Team

Road closures! A rolling road closure will be enforced on each of the stages. This means roads on and around the race route will be closed for a short period in which it takes the race to pass by – usually about 10 to 15 minutes around the estimated time of arrival and indicated by police escort vehicles.

No Parking! The route is marked with yellow advanced warning signs in the run up to The Tour. Please don’t park on the route on the day: if necessary vehicles may have to be removed.

Listen! There will be an advance vehicle 15 minutes ahead of the race, keeping you up-to-date with what is happening in The Tour.

Caution! Please keep children back from the edge of the road and animals on a lead, away from the roadside. Riders pass by very fast, while we encourage support, please keep flags, objects and photography equipment out of the road. Remember, taking selfies is fun, but turning your back on the race is never a good idea. Please face the oncoming riders and race convoy at all times.

Police! The Tour is escorted along the route by trained police officers and escort motorcyclists. If you are asked to stop by an officer, please listen carefully and obey their instructions.

Support! Don’t forget, this is a major international race so show your support for the British heroes and the international stars who will be taking part and leave them with positive memories of the support at the OVO Energy Tour of Britain.

Changes to bin collections

Our waste management team have shuffled around the bin collections on Wednesday 6 September to ensure that all collections will go ahead as normal, albeit at a different time to usual.

If your normal collection is on a Wednesday and you live in Southwell, Bilsthorpe, Edwinstowe, Budby and Newark please ensure that your bin is out ready for collection by 6am and if at all possible please return the bin to your garden or driveway once it has been emptied.

Thank you for your cooperation.
