Rural Touring Community Cinema
The Rural Touring Community Cinema is a scheme that uses portable cinema equipment to provide local cinema screenings in community venues across the district of Newark and Sherwood.
The scheme is a partnership between Newark and Sherwood District Council, Lowdham Village Hall, Elston Film Group and all other interested film groups within the district.
Local venues such as village halls, community centres, schools and libraries can be turned into friendly nearby temporary cinemas!
How does the scheme work?
You will need to sign up to be a community cinema promoter and agree to the terms and conditions of the scheme.
You can then book as many time slots as you wish, subject to availability.
You need to collect the equipment (film projector and large screen) from Lowdham Village Hall and return it at an agreed time. A large vehicle (for example an estate car) will be required for collection and delivery.
Selecting your films
As a community cinema promoter you will be responsible for registering with a film provider, such as Filmbank, in order to obtain a suitable subscription, licence and films. Usually films are despatched about one week before the play date.
The scheme is committed to equal opportunities and therefore it is a requirement that all venues have disabled access.
Your venue will need to seat a reasonable sized audience, have basic power available (13amp) and have a nearby parking area for loading and unloading the equipment.
Ideally, it should be possible to black out your venue to ensure that the quality of the projected image is as high as possible.
The venue should also have Public Liability insurance and meet the relevant health and safety requirements.
Equipment and technical support
We will provide help and support in how to set up and use the equipment before your first screening takes place. Also volunteers from Lowdham may be able to offer technical support on the night in person or by telephone.
