Public registers allow the public to check facts and might provide what is needed to put your mind at rest about an environmental issue; or it might give you the necessary information to raise questions with the people concerned. We maintain public registers in the following areas:
Pollution prevention and control
Throughout Newark and Sherwood, all of the sites that have permits from either this authority or the Environment Agency are listed on a public register. The registers contain copies of the permits and may include emissions monitoring information, details of any breaches of the conditions of the permit, any enforcement actions that we have carried out and any applications to vary the conditions of the permit.
Waste management licensing
Throughout Newark and Sherwood, all of the sites that have licences issued by the Environment Agency are listed on a public register. The registers contain a copy of the licence and may include monitoring information, details of any breaches of the terms of the licence, any enforcement actions that have been carried out and any applications to vary the terms of the licence.
Throughout Newark and Sherwood, information relating to sites that are subject to regulatory action and remediation is held on a register. Contents may include remediation notices, remediation statements, remediation declarations, land identified as contaminated land under Part IIA but which is subsequently dealt with under other environmental controls, designation of Special Sites, notification of remediation steps claimed to have been taken and statements on appeals.
N.B. Although the district does have large areas of land affected by contamination, there have been no formal determinations of 'Contaminated Land' in accordance with the statutory definition. Currently this authority's register has no entries.
All documents received and issued by the Environment Agency under any provision of the Act are held on a register. Please note that in light of concerns that release of certain information could be prejudicial to national security, certain information has been deemed to be sensitive. The risks associated with information related to closed and mobile source registrations have been assessed to be the most significant and this has been removed from the registers.
These registers are held at Kelham Hall, Kelham, Newark, Notts, NG23 5QX and are available for inspection free of charge Monday to Friday, 9am to 4.30pm). Requests for photocopying documents will incur a charge. If you would like to view any of the registers please contact us.
