Public open spaces

Grass cutting

We are responsible for cutting grass on over 400 sites across the district. The grass on these sites is cut to varying lengths and at varying frequencies according to the council's grounds maintenance specification.

We do not collect the grass cuttings on the majority of our sites. There are a number of other organisations in the district responsible for grass cutting and these include parish councils, Nottinghamshire County Council and the Environment Agency. For any enquiries concerning grass cutting please contact us.

Parish Councils

As well as the district council there are many other providers of public open space in the area. In many villages and towns it is the parish councils which are the main provider of open space and outdoor recreational facilities.

‌Allotments and community gardens

We are not responsible for any allotments or community gardens. For details of how to obtain an allotment please contact your local parish council.

Country Parks and gardens

Country Parks and gardens to visit locally include:

Football pitches

We have a number of football pitches for hire at Lincoln Road and Devon Park in Newark (including both adult and junior pitches).

Rates of hire are very reasonable and include changing and shower facilities.

For further details about how to hire a football pitch please contact our customer services team on 01636 650000 or email community.services@nsdc.info

Tennis court hire

We have tennis courts which can be used by the public at two locations: Sherwood Avenue Park in Newark and Kelham Hall grounds, adjacent to the district council's headquarters.

A small charge is made for the use of the courts at Sherwood Avenue Park. The courts at Kelham Hall are £2.50 per person per hour.

Bowls

Newark Town Council is responsible for two bowling greens, both located in Newark - one at Sherwood Avenue Park and one at Beaumond Gardens.

Should you wish to play on either of these greens please or email post@newark.gov.uk

Bowling greens are also available in many other towns and villages in the district. For details of these please contact the relevant parish council or bowls club.
